bird watching gives people an opportunity to have a hobby that can be done in right in their own back yard or take vacations to explore bird habitats all over the world.
A serious bird watching enthusiast thinks nothing of taking an extended vacation to some international country to seek out sightings of different rare bird species, even if it means traveling through bad weather and over rocky mountains just to see birds in their natural habitat.

If you are interested in bird watching, you will need certain equipment that will enhance your enjoyment of hobby of birdwatching.

It is essential have a decent pair of binoculars. You will need these to observe and identify distant birds. Binoculars for bird watching aren’t cheap and quality depends on different price ranges. A superior pair of binoculars will const you five hundred dollars or more, but these are top quality instruments. A mid-priced pair of binoculars will run several hundred dollars and a cheap pair of binoculars will cost around one hundred dollars.

Since most bird watchers have prescription eye glasses, a pair of binoculars should be chosen so there is ample relief between the eyeglass lenses and the binocular eye pieces. If attention isn’t paid to this detail, the bird watcher will be constantly taking off their glasses every time they want to look through the binoculars. Not only is that cumbersome, it is also a great inconvenience.

Bird watching requires binoculars with a high magnification to see distant birds, and the ability to gather plenty of light for dawn and late evening observations. Binoculars haver ratings such as 7X35. The first number, seven in the example, shows the binocular magnification power. In the example, the binoculars will magnify an object seven times. The last number, 35 in the example, means the binoculars have a 35 degree field of view.

A bird watching guide book is critical for a rookie bird watcher so they can identify different bird species by their color, their shape, and their habitat. In addition, the rookie and experienced bird watcher both need a field guide to understand and identify bird species located in a particular area or state. A field guide provides information on nesting habits, terrain the bird is found in, feeding habits, type of food, seasonal information on the species, and much more.

Although not a necessity for bird watching, notepads or logs can be used to keep a detailed record of species observations. Digital Cameras are a great way to document observations for later study and for pure enjoyment of the hobby.
