Qui gong in Reston, VA - an old Chinese health care system - incorporates the following in the practice: physical postures, breathing exercises and forced intention. Two Chinese words make up Qigong (Chi Kung). The 1st word is Qi (pronounced as chee) is the life force that flows through all things in the universe. The 2nd word is Gong, which means achievement or skill cultivated through steady practice. Combined, Qigong (Chi Kung) means cultivating energy. Among the many purposes of this system are health maintenance, healing as well as improved vitality.

Martial, medical and spiritual are but few of the words that describe Qigong practices. Styles employ (1) a posture, moving or stationary, (2) a breathing technique and (3) mental focus. Qigong practices also do one or some of the following: circulate and utilize Qi, cleanse and heal the body, or store and emit Qi. Practices vary from gentle (e.g. Tai Chi) to the intensely rigorous forms (e.g. Kung Fu). The great thing about most Qigong forms is that the slow gentle movements would present no problem to nearly anyone - even to the physically challenged.

While Qigong is a highly effective health care practice, one must note that this is not a universal remedy. As such, Qui gong in Reston, VA is suggested as an alternative medicine by several health care specialists.
